Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered in a search box is transmitted directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies any result. We do not retain or record those search terms on our own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, server systems may automatically receive technical information about the visit:
- Your device's internet protocol address
- The browser name and software version
- The operating system and kind of device
- Pages opened and the time spent on them
- Any referring website
- The date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device to help measure how the website is used, including popular pages and points where visits end. Analytics vendors may combine this activity into traffic reports. A browser can reject or remove cookies, although disabling them may change how parts of the website function.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving website performance
- Routing a query to the selected search provider
- Measuring which content visitors use
- Diagnosing errors and security problems
- Selecting advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Jefferson County Court Docket does not host, maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal case records or court dockets. It publishes general directions to the Jefferson County Circuit Clerk, trial courts, WVPASS, and Magistrate Record Search. Official court access is governed by rules including West Virginia Code §51-4-2 and the applicable confidentiality laws. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party case profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Independent companies operate the search boxes that appear on some pages. Information submitted there is handled under the provider's privacy policy. Each partner decides how long it keeps data and when it shares data. Review those terms before running a search because we cannot control the partner's practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to West Virginia courts, the Jefferson County Circuit Clerk, legal-aid resources, statewide portals, or commercial search services. Once a visitor follows an outside link, that destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use activity from more than one website to select ads. Such tracking occurs through the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be disclosed to:
- Search providers processing a submitted query
- Analytics vendors measuring use and performance
- Advertising networks serving page content
- A government body or law-enforcement agency acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used for information in our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will take steps to delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary with the law that applies where a visitor lives. West Virginia court-record inspection laws, including FOIA §29B-1-3 and §29B-1-4, concern public records held by government custodians and do not turn this private website into a public agency. Subject to applicable law, visitors may:
- Request access to personal data held about you
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Ask for deletion where the law permits it
- Object to or opt out of certain processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as website practices or legal requirements change. A revision becomes available here with a replacement effective date, so visitors should review the current version periodically.
Effective date: September 7, 2026
